Welcome to Race the Wind!

Rules

  1. All participants will be assigned a number.
  2. Dogs MUST wear a flat, buckle collar.
    • NO martingale-type collars will be permitted.
    • Kennel collars may be purchased at the registration desk.
    • Racing silks and muzzles will be provided or you may use your own if you choose.
  3.  Make sure you are PROMPT AND READY to go when your number is called.
  4. Your sweet docile baby never forgets the sound of the lure.
    • Make sure collars are on snuggly and securely.
    • When the track announcer tells you to hang on to your dogs, HANG ON!!!! Your sweet little darling will turn into a maniac!
    • Every year someone under estimates the lure of the lure and we end up yelling LOOSE DOG.
    • We don't want anyone to be injured so it is for the safety of your pets and yourself we stress this. Please HOLD ON TIGHTLY TO YOU PET.
  5. When your number is called you will then hand your dog(s) over to a Crew member so your participant(s) can be blanketed and muzzled by a crew member for the race.
  6.  Track personnel will be loading dog(s) into the starting box while you make your way to the escape turn/cool down area. (Do this QUICKLY or your contestant(s) will probably beat you there.)
  7. Once your dog(s) has completed the race, track personnel will be responsible for catching your dog(s) and the cool down process. After it is determined that your pet has sufficiently been cooled, a crew member will then release the dog(s) to you.
  8. SPECIAL DOS AND DONT'S
  9. Do be sure your pets nails are well trimmed. Nail trimming is offered at Sterl Hall before the Fun Run.
  10. Do not feed your dog supper on Friday night before the Fun Run. A light supper may be fed after racing. (That is, if your dog can still hold its head up after all of the excitement!)
  11. Do not allow your dog to drink large amounts of water before running. You on the other hand are encouraged to drink to your hearts content.
  12. Please don't ask if your dog may run again that evening. It would be most unfair to your pet and the rest of the contestants. When a greyhound is actively racing, it must rest 2 to 3 days before being allowed to run another race. Our pets are not in their peak racing condition so lets be sensitive to that and not ask too much of them regardless of how much you enjoyed watching the performance.
  13.  Prizes will be presented at Sterl Hall after the races. In addition, yogurt will be provided for the greyt racers and the people they own. This also gives those proud parents an opportunity to brag about their dogs performance.
  14.  DO HAVE FUN!!!!
